What is a Professional Midlife Crisis?

You’ve done well in your career. You are a leader. You have done well financially. By all outward appearance, you are successful… and yet, internally, you’re not satisfied, not fulfilled, not happy. You are feeling bored in your career. Or worse, you’re no longer doing all the things you used to love – your days are now spent dealing with problems.

It’s a pretty well-known phenomenon, one that typically happens somewhere between the ages of 45 and 55. It begins with the realization that our lives are technically “half over”. We reflect on things not yet accomplished, wrestling with the thought, “is this really all there is for my life?” We start searching for something new – something to reignite our juices. For some, this desire pushes in the direction of a hot red sports car or torrid love affair.

This is not a book about that kind of midlife crisis! This is about what to do if you, like so many people, are feeling unsatisfied or bored with your career. If you struggle to go to work, its likely you’re experiencing a Professional Midlife Crisis.

About ERG, Inc.

In 2002, Sharon Hulce founded Employment Resource Group, Inc. (ERG) when she realized that many businesses were hiring sound technical “resumes” but not really understanding the importance of emotional intelligence, and how that would impact the culture and a person’s ability to thrive. With nearly 25 years of experience in executive search, Sharon has established a reputation of success for both professionals and the businesses with which she works. This is the area that ERG excels at, and its placement retention rate proves this. Its goal is to help companies not only find technically competent candidates, but to change the primary focus to one about behaviors. Sharon has always believed you “hire for attitude, train for skill.”

Within ERG, Sharon established its Pinnacle Talent division. This part of the company focuses on several things, including proactive hiring, retention of employees, empowerment of an employee’s career, and succession planning. Employee turnover is one of the biggest losses of revenue a company can have, and ERG has saved its clients millions of dollars, plus a great amount of stress, by solving this problem.
